A Calgary Flames Reunion At The All Star Draft

Your normal Calgary Flames post will return soon!  I promise!  But for now, let’s talk about the All Star Draft:

As I sit here and catch up on the draft, because I was out eating dinner, I have to say I am impressed with the team assembled by Zdeno Chara.  With Joffery Lupul standing by Chara’s side, the two have assembled a much more coheasive team than Daniel Alfredsson and Henrik Lundqvist assembled.  This is not to say Alfredsson has a bad team, but come on!  Chara managed to reunite Jarome Iginla and Dion Phaneuf!  I can’t imagine the squeals of joy coming from some of the fans in Calgary when this happened. To see Iginla sit on the stage next to Phaneuf as the draft continued was a blast from the past.

Joining Iginla and Lupul on Team Chara is first overall pick Pavel Datsyuk, Evgeni Malkin, Marian Hossa, Corey Perry, Phil Kessel, Patrick Kane, Marian Gaborik (despite his best efforts to join Team Alfredsson), Jordan Eberle , Tyler Seguin, and Jamie Benn.

And on the defensive end, with Chara and Phaneuf is Kimmo Timonen, Ryan Suter (separated from Weber!), Brian Campbell, and Dennis Wideman.

With goalies Tim Thomas, Carey Price, and Jimmy Howard rounding out the group, the team looks pretty much unstoppable.

As for the Rookie Team?  Luke Adam, Raphael Diaz, Colin Greening, Cody Hodgson, Ryan Johnsen, and Gabriel Landeskog will be represented Team Chara.

Don’t forget to tune in Saturday to watch the All Star Skills Competition at 5PM MST.
