A Flames Run Down And News Around The NHL

facebooktwitterreddit

A little run down on the Calgary Flames and NHL today:

Fresh off the IR, backup goalie Henrik Karlsson was sent back down to the Abbotsford Heat for some conditioning.  Leland Irving is returning to the lineup as the backup for Miikka Kiprusoff.  With Karlsson in Abbotsford, is there a trade in his future?  Could the Flames be looking to build with a youthful goaltender?  Karlsson isn’t young, but he’s not exactly the aging goalie that Kiprusoff is.  Karlsson is 28, he’s young enough to be worth while to a team needing a solid backup goalie.  Maybe the Flames can get something in return to help them out defensively or another goal scorer.  Who knows with trade deadline approaching.

So it seems Olli Jokinen enjoys being the butt of all jokes, an internet meme.  Here he is giving an interview or it’s a new commercial for McDonald’s:

It would be foolish of me to ignore the skill coming out of the Edmonton Oilers in the form of Sam Ganger.  In his past two games, he’s racked up 6 goals and 5 assists.  11 points in two games, that’s impressive.  What a player to have on the team, too bad it’s for the Oilers.

Martin St. Louis played in his 900th game Saturday night against the Florida Panthers.  To make his 900th game even more memorable?  How about a hat trick:

And I can’t let this one go by, happy anniversary to Scott Gomez.  It has been one year since his last goal.  He had chance to break this streak this afternoon against the Winnipeg Jets, but he fell short.  Here’s a clip of his last goal, February 5, 2011:

I guess when all is said and done, I should be grateful Gomez isn’t a Flame.

Go Flames Go!
