Even With A Win, Flames Still Lose

After a 3-2 win against Detroit Wednesday night and sweeping the Red Wings 3-0 in the season series (don’t ask me how), the Flames are feeling pretty confident with themselves right now. The bad part? Calgary was mathematically officially eliminated from playoff contention this season.

A Vezina-like performance in possibly his last game at the ‘Dome, Miikka Kiprusoff saved 29 of 31 shots while opposing goalie, Jimmy Howard saved just 13 out of 15. Despite the ‘Wings firing 19 shots on net in the 3rd period, Kiprusoff only allowed one goal in the final period. Way to go out with a bang Kipper!

Don’t ask how, but Steve Begin netted two goals Wednesday night including the game-winner, which game on the penalty-kill in 3rd period. The goals are just his 3rd and 4th of the season. Roman Horak assisted on Begin’s second goal. Lee Stempniak opened the scoring 13:28 into the game while Baertschi and Sarich picked up the helpers.

Get ready for a win-streak folks. It’s a shame that the Calgary Flames play their best hockey when it doesn’t matter. Mid-round draft-pick here we come!

This Friday the Flames host the Anaheim Ducks at 7:00 PM MT and then head on the road next week.
