Speculation: Should Calgary Pursue John-Michael Liles?

So, the Toronto Maple Leafs will most likely be buying out defenseman John-Michael Liles. Would the 32-year old be a smart investment for the Flames? He would certainly provide depth to a lacking defense in Calgary. It also wouldn’t hurt to add another veteran to a re-building team.

His contract is massive, however, for an above mediocre player. Last season, JML made $4.25 million to register 11 points in 32 games and rack up two minor penalties along with a -1 rating. In the Playoffs, he appeared in four games, posting zero points and a minor penalty.

If the Flames are serious in pursuing him, anything over 2-years, $3 million would be too much, but it’s not my call.

What do you think, should the Calgary Flames pursue this veteran defenseman? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments section below!
