Bob Hartley is in the news right now, being called out by Scott Parker for Hartley’s harshness during his tenure with the Avs affiliate team. As Parker explained, “He was always just degrading me…he was a bully…” Those are harsh words coming from a player about his former coach. Hartley hasn’t yet commented, and I wonder if he will at all.

Here’s the article. Let me know your thoughts on what Parker had to say about Bob Hartley. How do you think Hartley should respond?

It is being speculated on reddit.com/CalgaryFlames that the Flames are interested in Jake Gardiner of the Toronto Maple Leafs. This 23 year old defensive player has been playing with the Toronto Marlies and Leafs since 2011 and has played for Team USA in the World Juniors. So far this season, Gardiner has played 26 games for the Maple Leafs and has 6 points and a +2 rating.

If the Flames are interested in Gardiner, who do you think will be on the chopping block in Calgary?

Pretty strong words from Parker. I could see him exaggerating this, but pretty brutal. I’m a fan of Hartley & would like to think he’s not that mean. However, when you’re an enforcer who does not contribute with points it kind of makes sense that when you can’t play tough you don’t play. I woulda benched him too if he couldn’t. Just maybe said it nicer…

You hit the nail on the head with your comment – I hope he’s exaggerating too, or that maybe it was taken out of context because it seemed a little harsh. And I also agree with you that, if players aren’t producing, they should be benched – that’s how hockey works.
Thanks for the comments, and thank you for taking time to read Flame For Thought!
