This is the first of two meetings this season between the Calgary Flames and the Carolina Hurricanes. Even though Carolina has lost their last two games, they fought back against a three goal deficit against the Edmonton Oilers to force overtime in their last game. They ended up losing by a score of 5-4 but it wasn’t for a lack of trying to win.

With a record of 13-13-6, the Hurricanes will be hungry for a win against the Flames. With 32 points, the Carolina Hurricanes are in third place in the Metropolitan Division, behind only the Washington Capitals (with 36 points) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (with 43 points).

In spite of their two-game losing skid, Carolina has some fight left in them, which was obvious last night against the Oilers, and the Flames will have to prepare for a tough battle. If Cam Ward is in net for the Hurricanes and the Staal brothers are on the ice, the Flames won’t be able to let one moment pass them by without playing to their highest potential. They need to be prepared to battle because the Carolina Hurricanes will not be an easy team to beat.

With MacDermid being reassigned to Abbotsford, it seems that Galiardi will most likely be back in the lineup for Thursdays game. The Flames have worked on their defense since Giordano has returned, but now it seems that with Monahan and Glencross out on the injury list, the offensive lines have suffered as the flu has also made its way through the locker room.

The puck drops at the Saddledome tonight at 7pm.
