After what can only be described as the best effort by the Flames yet this season, the Calgary Flames won against the St. Louis Blues in a shootout with a final score of 4-3.

During the overtime period last night at the Saddledome, David Backes, captain of the St. Louis Blues, made knee on knee contact with Matt Stajan that sent the Flames player #18 rolling onto the ice in pain. So far, Stajan has not been placed on the injured list, but I will keep you updated as I find out.

Some people are saying it was a clean hit and that Stajan leaned into it. On the other hand, there are numerous Flames fans who seem to agree that Backes should face the discipline committee.

Take a look at the video of the Backes hit and let me know what you think. Do you think Backes requires a hearing after the hit? Or do you think it was clean enough to warrant only a two-minute penalty?

And, because these moments are few and far between lately, let’s recapture that great moment from last night’s game, brought to us by the man, the captain, the great defenseman, Mark Giordano with barely 5 seconds left in the game…the Flames goal of the season.
