Johnny Gaudreau and Team USA took on the Czech Republic today only to have their fate sealed as they lost in the quarterfinal of the IIHF tournament.

Sean Monahan and Team Canada played Team Finland today in the quarterfinals, but Canada would not move on to the semi-finals as Finland won with a third period goal to finalize the score 3-2.

Entering the semi-finals will be Jiri Hudler and the Czech Republic against former Flames player, Olli Jokinen and Team Finland, while Russia will play Mikael Backlund and Team Sweden after they won against Belarus with a final score of 3-2.

Backlund is showing off his skill on an international level. He has four goals and one assist so far in seven games played during the World Championship.

As well, Hudler has been productive for the Czech Republic. With one goal and three assists, he’s helped the Czechs move on to the next round.

Both semi-final games are scheduled for Saturday, May 24th.
