Good morning Calgary Flames fans!

I start this morning with an announcement.  On September 1st, Flame For Thought will be releasing its first YouTube video. Here is the LINK to Flame For Thought’s YouTube channel.  The plan is to release a video every Monday.

Speaking of YouTube, I found this absolute gem of a 1978 commercial starring Lanny MacDonald.

According to many sources, the Calgary Flames have invited the now former Chicago Blackhawk Sheldon Brookbank to training camp.  The 33 year old Saskatchewan native fits the mould of  using “truculence” to showcase his team first attitude.  To me this is a head scratcher of an invite because the Calgary Flames have already paid 32 year old Deryk Engelland to fill that role.  I suppose you need to bring in extra bodies for camp and keep an open mind.

Looking over the remaining defensive free agents, here are two free agents I hope the Calgary Flames invite to camp to challenge for spots:

Derek Morris – sure the one time Calgary Flame is now 36 years old but he still has good wheels and a better shot.  Morris and Kris Russell would make a great tandem.

Carlo Colaiacovo – 31 years old with parts of 11 NHL seasons under his belt. When he plays 60 games in a season he tends to get at least 20 points while not being a defensive liability. The problem is trying to keep him healthy enough to get to at least 60 games.

Have a great day Flames fans.
