Saturday Night in St. Louis, Jonas Hiller or Karri Ramo?

Who will be in net for the Calgary Flames on Saturday night when they take on the St. Louis Blues?

I believe Jonas Hiller is the undisputed #1 goalie of the Calgary Flames.

Listening to radio shows and hockey broadcasts on the Fan 960, there are strong opinions suggesting my belief is wrong.  Watching Sportsnet TV broadcasts, their broadcasters seem convinced it’s a nightly game of pick’em on whether or not Jonas Hiller or Karri Ramo is the #1 goalie of the Flames.

I don’t believe many folks were surprised that Coach Bob Hartley platooned Hiller and Ramo in the back-to-back games opening the season.  Saturday’s game in St. Louis is the first time this season, Coach Hartley will need to “choose” his starting goaltender.  Another set of back-to-back games happen after the St. Louis game which many can once again expect to see Hiller and Ramo platooned again.

The here-and-the-now of the goaltending situation is as follows:

• Jonas Hiller, 1 game played, .906 save percentage on 32 shots.
• Karri Ramo, 1 game played, .950 save percentage on 40 shots.
