There are games in the Calgary Flames season I will miss because of other commitments.  Tonight was one of those nights.  I watched Stuart Skinner of the Lethbridge Hurricanes stop 46 of 47 shots to carry the ‘Canes to a 2-1 shootout win over the defending Memorial Cup Champion Edmonton Oil Kings.

Now back to the regularly scheduled programming.

The Calgary Flames lost in overtime to the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1.

The fear was after a long road trip, the Flames would (once again) have a terrible first period.  The boxscore reads the Calgary Flames outshot the Lightning 8-5.  Pleasant surprise!!

Apparently aside from a Mark Giordano fight, the Calgary Flames took ZERO penalties.  Really?  A 63 minute game and no minor penalties.

Here is the link to watch the Mark Giordano fight – – HOCKEYFIGHTS.COM LINK.

Johnny Gaudreau earned the assist of the month.  Gaudreau drew 4 Lightning players to him then fed Dennis Wideman for an “easy” goal.  LINK TO SEE THE GOAL.  Gaudreau missed some time after the goal recovering from his crash into the boards.

Next up for our Calgary Flames, the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.  The fear about the winless Hurricanes (0-3-2) coming to town is that our Flames “play down” to the competition.  Hopefully being home for back-to-back games and settling into a proper practice routine, our Flames can stomp a mudhole in the Hurricanes on Thursday.
