Thanks to not one, not two, but three flubbed dump-ins by Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson, our Calgary Flames defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-2.

The first Flames goal was scored by Paul Byron on a breakaway.

As fun as the Byron goal was, the high stick to the eyelid of captain Mark Giordano was scary.  I hope he keeps the visor!  After two periods of play, Giordano was credited with 11:11 of playing time.  Gio finished the game more than double that at 22:37.

Lance Bouma had a third period for the ages whilst picking up some extra time for an again injured David Jones.  Bouma picked up an assist coming out of the penalty box, picking off a pass at the top of his own zone, wheeling down the ice and sending the puck across to Markus Granlund.  Bouma also scored a pretty goal to put the game out of reach.  Bouma also played a pivotal part of the penalty killing unit that killed off a 5-on-3 powerplay for the Senators to keep the game out of reach!

I saw some chatter on Twitter lumping Markus Granlund into the discussion about being demoted as injured players like Mason Raymond and Joel Colborne come back.  I didn’t include Mr. Granlund in my ARTICLE outlining my choices for who goes down to Adirondack when Micheal Ferland comes back and still won’t include Mr. Granlund in that chatter.  Max Reinhart going 1 for 7 in the faceoff circle though is making him the obvious choice to go back to Adirondack.  Unless of course, David Jones goes back to the IR.  Sorry for the frustration about DJ but every time you think you’re getting a $4 million dollar player – – bang – – he’s hurt again.

The Calgary Flames schedule to finish the month of November comes against some stiff competition. The Anaheim Ducks (twice), Chicago Blackhawks, Mike Cammalleri‘s New Jersey Devils and the San Jose Sharks make up our next 5 games.  It will be interesting to see if our boys will be up to the task.

Go Flames Go!
