The Calgary Flames lost 4-1 to the red hot Columbus Blue Jackets Friday evening. They also had troubles solving Sergei Bobrovky in the third period.

In the battle of the former Vancouver Canucks Coaches, the Calgary Flames let in four goals in the first two periods against the Columbus Blue Jackets and couldn’t capitalize in the third. They couldn’t beat the Sergei Bobrovksy puzzle who is 17-5-2 on the season. In his last eight games, he’s 7-0-1. On the season, he has a 0.934 sv% and a 1.94 GAA.

The Flames may have scored a powerplay goal, but their special teams don’t have as much grit as they had their last few games. They let in a short-handed goal which is their second in as many games. They went 1/5 on the PP tonight and killed off two of three penalties.

Some good news in the Flames department is that Sean Monahan is on a career high nine-game point streak. The last time a Flame had a nine-game point streak was Mark Giordano in 2014. Johnny Gaudreau is now on a seven-game point streak including the game before he got injured He now has 10 points in six games since returning to the lineup from his injury on December fourth.

Some bad news in the Flames department is that Chad Johnson looks to unfortunately be in a bit of a slump. After being one of the best goaltenders in November and the best to start December, he seems to have lost his game a little. He has now allowed eight goals in his last two games on 50 shots. The Flames also pulled him after the second period in the last game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Calgary Flames seem to be doing worse now when they have some extra days to rest. In November, they had 16 games and they seemed to have developed a consistent rhythm. Now with some days off, they don’t seem to really know what to do.

Good news is that their next two games are on the road. They are tied for first for most amount of road wins in the NHL with nine of them.

Unfortunately for tonight, the Calgary Flames were outshot, outhit, had too many giveaways, and let in too many goals.
