Good morning Calgary Flames fans! It continues to be cold and snowy in Calgary today. Let’s take a look at some Flames news over the last day.

The biggest piece of news surrounding the Calgary Flames is their dominating 5-0 win last night against the Montreal Canadiens. Looks like they finally took revenge on their 4-1 loss in January.

Actually, the Flames owe the Habs a lot for that loss. Many players have credited that loss for being the wake-up call for the team. And well, since then, they’re 12-2-1, the best record in the NHL in that time frame. So thank you Habs.

Something else that’s exciting are some firsts. Michael Stone got his first goal as a Flame last night. He notched an assist too, but unfortunately his game ended early because he looked to get hurt. Dougie Hamilton also seemed to get hurt which was the opposite of what was supposed to happen last night.

What do I mean by this?

Well, me and my friend had some fun with Dougie last night.

Anyways, moving on. The Flames haven’t said anything about the two injuries, but they did say Dougie’s doesn’t look like anything serious (phew). They said they’ll reevaluate in the morning, so maybe we’ll find something out in a couple of hours.

But, if there are some serious injuries, chances are Dennis Wideman will be back in the lineup. And the Flames right now are 8-0-0 without Wideman. Which is tied for a franchise record with eight-straight games. One more win and they’ll make franchise history. Will they be able to do that with Wideman in the lineup?

This is also their first eight-game win streak since 2005. Good job, guys.

Another first last night was Brian Elliott getting his first shutout as a Flame. That was an excitement and a half.

What’s a post-game win without some post-game comments?

Via Calgary Herald:

"“Anytime you’re part of these streaks and you can say that we matched the longest one in history … It’s a big accomplishment,” said Flames captain Mark Giordano. “Last year, we did 11 at home … and it feels good to be a part of those streaks. You’re doing something right. But this one feels a lot better because of the situation we are in and what it means for playoffs.”"

Via CBC Sports:

"“No one says it on the bench, no one says the word. But everybody knew what we were playing for,” said Gulutzan (about Elliott’s shutout). “I don’t think we turned the puck over in the third. We just wanted to make sure that we were playing the right way the whole way. That was a complete game.”“It’s just fun to be on this ride right now with the guys,” Elliott said. “Personally, you want to stay playing well and feeling good seeing the puck. When the guys are playing like they are in front of you, you just stop a couple and they do the rest.”"
