An Introduction And The Flames

As I sit here and recover from our boys in red loss to the New York Rangers, I’d like to share a little about myself, what the Flames mean to me, and why last night’s match up is one of the most stressful games of the season.

Currently located out in New Jersey, I’m not exactly in Flames country.  As someone who’s never set foot in Calgary, or the province of Alberta for that matter, I’ve got a unique view of the Flames and the city.  And as much as I wish I could say, “I remember watching Lanny lifting the cup above his head in celebration”, I can’t.  That moment came 2 months and 28 days before I was born. And as for their feverish run for the Cup in 2003-2004?  Well it didn’t really catch on in New Jersey.  The regular season was enjoyed via articles online and the playoffs were a lonely experience.

But with the introduction of Twitter and an upgrade to NHL’s GameCenter Live that’s all changed.  And here I am, writing about at team I’ve had the pleasure of seeing live once.  I hope that you don’t hold my geographical location against me.  I still eat, sleep, and breath this team.  I still cringe every time I see Oiler orange and do I little jig when I head “Barbra Streisand” comes up on my play list.

And the reason last night’s match up was so stressful?  Well that’s simple, I grew up a New York Rangers fan.  People have tried to make me pick between the two, but that’s impossible.  They’ve gone so far as to make me visualize Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, that is probably my worst nightmare actually.  Last night’s game was twitch inducing.  I ended up with a massive headache after one period.  This happens every year, I’m miserable and cranky.  I find myself wishing for July to hurry up.  And for those of you who’ve met me, this is a ridiculous thought! I love hockey.  I live for this sport!

Yeah, no matter what, my team won.  But it still hurts me that the Flames lost.  More so than I think it should.  Unlike the Rangers, with the Flames, every loss is a crushing defeat.  One that has me hurt and waiting in anticipation for the next game.  I think you understand this feeling.  I, much like you, live and die for this team.  So hopefully you’ll stick around on this attempt to blog from across the county and south of the border.

Go Flames Go!
