Sorry about the delay, the nor’easter that hit the area managed to take out all power and internet. I’ve been without anything for about 24 hours and will have another 24 more without. Because of this, yesterday’s post about the game against the St. Louis Blues didn’t get to go up and well now, it seems pretty pointless to talk about their performance. Their next game, Vancouver Canucks, is too far out for me to start complaining about any aspect of the team’s play, so today’s post will be about the Flames’ newest member Roman Horak.
Like a gift from the Hockey Deities, Roman Horak seems to be part of the answer to the Flames’ problems. Young enough to be the son of some of these players (well not really, but the kid is only 20, quite the departure from the normal age) he’s proven himself to be a valuable asset for the Flames. In 7 games, Horak has racked up 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists). With a game winning goal already to his name, Horak has great potential.
The Flames need someone to step up and start getting the puck in the net with regularity, and while Horak won’t be 20 goal scorer as the numbers are currently predicting, every goal he has helps. During the first half of the season, when the Flames had that lovely slump, ten games, from September to the end of December, ended with the Flames losing by 1 goal. 10 games where one goal meant the difference between 1 point and no points, with a potential for 2. Those 10 extra points could have changed the season. Even if only 5 of those games went in to OT/SO, 5 points is enough to have bumped the team up to 8th place. Playoff spot.
Do you see where I’m going with this? Even at the bare minimum, Horak will be a great influence on the team. With an average of 13 and change minutes on the ice, Horak is capable of putting up even more points, both goals and assists. Finally, someone with a bit of fire and youth left in them.
Now here’s hoping Jay Feaster and co. doesn’t send him away.
Go Flames Go!
