A Flames October Wrap Up, Canucks, And Movember

So here we are, the last day of October, what an awful October it has been.  With a record of 4-4-1, the Flames currently sit in 14th for the Western Conference with just the Columbus Blue Jackets beneath them.  With tomorrow’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, the first match up this regular season, and rumors that Roberto Luongo starting, I’m very bummed the power will not be back in time to watch this game.  While there’s a dozen jokes that could be made about Luongo’s meltdowns, you have to remember, the Canucks are an impressive bunch even without Luongo at the top of his game.  Yes, he might have blown it during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but that is because the Boston Bruins knew how to capitalize on his weakness.  And when Luongo shows up, he’s one of the best goalies in the league.  Just think, out of all the Canadian goalies, out there, he made the Olympic team and was quite the competitor in Vancouver.  That being said, the Flames need to come out strong, shake his confidence right off the bat.  There’s nothing worse than letting a goalie get into the rhythm of the game.  And as Center Brendan Morrison was quoted in the Yahoo! Flames Team Report:

“Our last four periods of hockey haven’t been great periods, but we’ve found a way to win.”

The Flames cannot keep playing like this, winging it and hoping that the effort they’ve scraped together can gain them 2 points. I feel like a broken record for saying this but go over the last few games: first win of the season, against the Canadiens, Montreal managed to get up 1-0 in the first two minutes.  Yes, the Flames had four unanswered goals but not a good way to start a game.  Against the Maple Leafs, they gave up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2, the Flames against Edmonton didn’t score until the last 4 minutes of play!  You just keep going down the line, the Flames do not play all 60 minutes. They cannot do this against the Canucks tomorrow.

But enough about what they should or shouldn’t be doing against the Canucks tomorrow.

Well obviously if I’ve done a wrap of of October, tomorrow is the beginning of November Movember.  As a big fan of people surviving, I wholeheartedly support this movement.  For those of you living in the dark,  each November, guys go from clean shaven to a furry face as a fund raising effort for men’s health.  Participants get donations for their furry upper lip and the money helps to keep men in fine fighting order.  You can check out their website here: Movember.com

While no official announcements have been made about Flames participating in this year’s Movember, they have participated in the past.  It’s not just the Calgary Flames, many teams and individual players participate in this mo-vement; Wendel Clark and George Parros being two of the most well known for sporting facial hair (Clark hasn’t shaved his in 20 years) shaved down to a bare face this weekend in preparation for the event.

Are any of you participating?  Have you participated in the past?  If you can’t grow a mustache, do you do something else to support the effort? Because really, I think one of my readers should be on this advertisement, not this guy   *shudders*

Movember, Grow Some Good.

Go Flames Go!
