The Winter Olympics are just two short years away (this summer is the boring ones) and with that comes the announcement of the who will lead the Canadian men’s team. Why was this even a question? The most obvious (and very successful) choice for executive director is Steve Yzerman, and thank goodness that’s who Hockey Canada picked.
Yzerman felt the pressure of the Olympics in 2010 when he was lead Team Canada to a gold on Canadian soil in Vancouver during his very first time as GM in the Olympics. I’m going to refrain from talking about the 2010 Olympics more, it was an ugly game for me, but remember this?
It seems Hockey Canada has a repeat performance in mind, with almost the exact same coaching staff accompanying Yzerman for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi (that’s in Russia). He will be on an equally big stage for hockey, with the entire nation holding their breath for him to go back to back Olympics with the gold medal.
