Flames Are Top 50 Three Times Over

facebooktwitterreddit

So last night’s win bumped the Calgary Flames up to the 8th spot in the playoffs.  With 76 points, they are tied with LA Kings and Colorado Avalanche, Colorado are a game a head and in the tie breaker the Flames are up on the Kings.

But on to other news:

The Hockey News recently polled the players of the NHL to rank the top 50 players currently playing.  Number 26 and 46?  Captain Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff respectively.  While it annoys me slightly a player who’s not even playing (Sidney Crosby), it’s nice to see the Flames being represented twice on this list.

THN also ranked the top 50 prospects in their Future Watch issue and while it is disappointing to see only one Flames prospect on the list, the Flames do have representation.  Number 15 on the list is boy wonder, Sven Baerschi.  In his second game in the NHL, he faced the Minnesota Wild and walked away with a sick goal.

It should be noted that the Flames do have more notable prospects than in years past.  This season the Flames have relied on Leland Irving, Lance Bouma, and Greg Nemisz to step it up through injuries faced this season.

Who know’s what next season will hold for the Flames.

Go Flames Go!
