The Ralph T. Scurfield Humanitarian Award is giving seasonally to the Calgary Flame who “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, determination and leadership on the ice, combined with dedication to community service.” This season, Curtis Glencross is the recipient of the award.
Named after the original owner of the Calgary Flames, Ralph T. Scurfield, who was killed in an avalanche in 1985, was known for his unfailing desire to help the community.
"“I have only one purpose, to serve the community. Everything else will follow through.” – via Calgary Herald"
In recent years, winners have been:
- Corey Sarich
- Craig Conroy
- David Moss
- Robyn Regehr
- Rhett Warrener (2)
- Martin Gelinas
- Denis Gauthier
- Jarome Iginla (2)
Curtis Glencross is joining an exemplary group of men who server their community year in and year out. Glencross volunteers his time with Special Olympics and Crime Stoppers Calgary while also creating the Curtis Glencross Invitational Charity Golf Tournament which he plans, co-ordinates and advertises, and has raised over $200,000 in two years.
Here’s hoping he remains the stand up citizen and hockey player Calgary loves.
