Taylor Signs in Sweden, Flames Goalie Scene Revealed
It’s a question that has been looming for few months: will Kiprusoff stay in Calgary or will he go? Even before the answer has been revealed Danny Taylor has decided it was not in his best interest to stay in the Flames organization and has signed with Färjestad BK in the Swedish Elite League.
Färjestad plays in Karlstad, located in southwest Sweden.
Last season, the England-native played 40 games in the AHL with the Heat posting a .922 save percentage and allowing 2.05 goals against per game. In two NHL games, Taylor has a .912 save percentage and 3.00 goals against average.
With Karri Ramo, Joni Ortio and Reto Berra all coming over from Europe to North America next season, the group will join Barry Brust, Joey MacDonald and Laurent Broissoit competing for the goalie positions in the AHL and NHL.
If Miikka Kiprusoff decides to leave the NHL, Joey MacDonald will have the starter role.
Leland Irving becomes an unrestricted free-agent in July after spending last season as a starter in Abbotsford but it’s unlikely that he will return.
There are simply way too many goalies in the Flames system right now.
The system could possibly look like this…
NHL: Joey MacDonald, Karri Ramo
AHL: Joni Ortio, Reto Berra
ECHL: Laurent Broissoit
