Mikael Backlund is one of twelve Flames’ to be tendered.
The Calgary Flames have extended qualifying offers nine players on Tuesday.
Jay Feaster and the Flames management tendered Mikael Backlund, Carter Bancks, Lance Bouma, Chris Breen, T.J. Brodie, Chris Butler, Paul Byron, Mark Cundari and Greg Nemisz.
Backlund, 24, signed a one-year, $725,000 contract last offseason. He produced 16 points in 32 games.
T.J. Brodie finished up his final year of his entry-level deal he signed back in 2010. The 23-year-old spent the entire season in the NHL recording lots of ice time, especially after Bouwmeester’s departure. Brodie registered 14 points in 47 games during the 2012-13 campaign.
In 2008, the Flames made a draft pick that made the organization notorious for bad drafting. Greg Nemisz, selected 25th overall in 2008, played in only 15 NHL games to date and has only one point. Brodie was selected 114th in the same year. In 2010 Nemisz signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Flames. He will be a lifetime AHL player.
