Number 7 in the Calgary Flames Prospect Rankings is defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon. The Burnaby, BC, native, he has played in Portland of the WHL since being drafted by the Winterhawks in 2008.
Wotherspoon stands at 6-1 and is just a few pounds over 200. He was drafted in the second-round of the 2011 NHL Draft by Calgary and is 20-years of age.
He signed an entry-level contract back on March 31, worth $925,000 for 3-years.
Last season in Portland, Wotherspoon amassed 47 points in 82 games while leading his team to the WHL Championship and eventually the Memorial Cup where his Winterhawks lost 6-4 to Halifax in the championship.
Although unlikely, Wotherspoon has the best shot of any defenseman prospect to crack the NHL roster. You can count on seeing him in Abbotsford for the majority of the 2013-14 season.
