So, the Toronto Maple Leafs will most likely be buying out defenseman John-Michael Liles. Would the 32-year old be a smart investment for the Flames? He would certainly provide depth to a lacking defense in Calgary. It also wouldn’t hurt to add another veteran to a re-building team.
His contract is massive, however, for an above mediocre player. Last season, JML made $4.25 million to register 11 points in 32 games and rack up two minor penalties along with a -1 rating. In the Playoffs, he appeared in four games, posting zero points and a minor penalty.
If the Flames are serious in pursuing him, anything over 2-years, $3 million would be too much, but it’s not my call.
