Jarome Iginla will be returning to the Saddledome for the first time since being traded last season to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The trade to the Pens may not have panned out for him, but he seems to be fitting in well with the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins touched down in Calgary yesterday and, from what I read on twitter, the ever-thoughtful Jarome made his way into the Flames dressing room to chat with some of the people that he knew. I don’t know about any other Flames fans, but I was glued to my twitter timeline for updates on Iginla’s return. From what I’ve read, a lot of other people feel as emotional as I do about his return.
I’m excited to say, I will be there to witness one of my all-time favourite players return to home ice – because I believe that the Calgary Saddledome will always be Iginla’s home.
I have had many Bruins fans sending me good thoughts and positive messages in reference to me being able to see Jarome on the ice one more time – they seem to be as excited as I am! And I know the Bruins will take good care of my favorite player. My one last request is that the Bruins family can help Jarome to earn the cup that he so rightfully deserves.
I have witnessed Jarome’s 1000th NHL point, his 500th goal, and I have watched the majority of his over 1200 games. As Flames fans, I think we all knew that Iginla would be traded eventually and I don’t think any of us have harboured ill feelings towards him about it. When Jarome steps out onto the ice at the Saddledome on Tuesday, I know that I will be on my feet and clapping in appreciation because I am not just a Flames fan, I will always be an Iggy fan.
In celebration of his return, let’s reminisce for a moment… the Iggy Dance!
