It’s an early game for the Calgary Flames today as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at 11am MT. With Malkin out of the Penguins line-up, Karri Ramo to start in net, and Mikael Backlund coming into his own as a top line center among David Jones and Mike Cammalleri, and in spite of their very different W/L records, today’s tilt is sure to be entertaining.

The Penguins have a record of 26-10-1 and are currently in first place in the Metropolitan Division with 53 points. The Flames record is 13-16-6 and they are just above the Edmonton Oilers (25 points) in the standings in the Pacific Division with 32 points.

This is the last game of the Flames road swing before they head home to host the St. Louis Blues on Monday, December 23. After a few day holiday break, the Flames will remain at home to host the Oilers on Friday, December 27.

Another Alberta boy has been signed by the Flames. Keegan Kanzig was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract worth $925,000. Right now, he’s playing for the Victoria Royals in the WHL and, at 6’6″ and 240lbs, I hope Kanzig will be some much-needed depth on the defensive line in the Flames future.
