Seems there is a lot going on in the world of the Calgary Flames.
With the trade deadline looming soon, Matt Stajan has been signed to a four year contract. There was an announcement on Flames website, explaining the signing. It is worth an average of 3.125 million dollars annually. This is his fifth year with the Flames franchise as he was part of the trade that sent Dion Phaneuf to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Mike Cammalleri has been placed on the IR with a concussion. In his absence, the team has done relatively well on the ice with Mikael Backlund wearing the “A” in place of Cammalleri. Rumors are also flying about him being shopped, many teams rumored to be interested, including the L.A. Kings, Vancouver Canucks, and the Detroit Red Wings. Still no official word yet on what’s going on with Cammy, except we know that he’s missed five games so far with a concussion. Hartley said he’s progressing.
Paul Byron blocked a shot in the game against the San Jose Sharks and left the game in the second period with a lower body injury, and did not return. He has not been placed on the long-term injury list, but he took part in the Tuesday skate. Hartley hasn’t given much more information, but I’m sure that Byron will be a game-time decision on Wednesday, against the Phoenix Coyotes.
Rumors are flying about the fate of Kris Russell resigning with the Flames. But Russell has said that he’s just focusing on getting back into the game after returning against the Sharks for the first time since December 21st.
Dear Flames, he’s one of our greatest defensive assets other than Gio right now – get this kid signed!
Go Flames Go!
