The NHL three stars of the week have been announced. Yes, Flames fans, Mikael Backlund is on that list!
Because of his six points last week and his game-winning goal against the San Jose Sharks in overtime, Backlund was given the honor of third star (alongside Zach Parise, first star, and Phil Kessel, second star) for last week. Backlund has received 8 points in his last 5 games and shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. You can read more about the three stars on the NHL.com website.
Mark Giordano is on a ripper lately as he’s accumulated 28 points in 37 games. He has 6 points in his last five games as well as netting the game-winning goal against the San Jose Sharks on January 30th. His leadership on the Flames has been inspiring to a team that could have easily thrown in the proverbial towel. Yet, under the influence of Gio, they have persevered and are now starting to gain momentum in the league again.
Kevin Westgarth has had a string of good luck lately. He’s slowly gaining ice time, which has allowed him to be part of some very impressive plays. He had a couple good scoring chances in the game against San Jose on Thursday night and he also assisted on T.J. Galiardi‘s first goal in 37 games against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night.
The Calgary Flames are getting better. Hold on, Flames fans, I have a feeling things are going to get really interesting very soon!
Go Flames Go!
