The Calgary Flames AHL affiliate team, the Abbotsford Heat, have been tearing up the standings lately. With their last 7-1 win against the Charlotte Checkers, it’s easy to see why.
In the first period alone, four goals were scored by Josh Jooris, Max Reinhart, Blair Jones, and Carter Bancks. Even though there was no scoring in the second, the third seemed to mirror the first. Markus Granlund and Corban Knight scored two more before Phillippe Cornet of the Checkers broke the shutout and put Charlotte on the board. But it would be their only goal of the night. Ben Street shot the dagger that finalized the score by a six goal margin.
Sven Baertschi and newcomer Corey Locke each earned an assist during the game. With 1 goal and 1 assist, Markus Granlund was given the third star. Also with 1 goal and 1 assist, Max Reinhart earned the second star. The first star of the night was given to goalie, Oliver Roy, who had 25 saves.
The Abbotsford Heat are now in first place in the Western Division and in second place in the Western Conference.
Considering all the injuries that the Calgary Flames have been going through this season, there is no lack of talent and skill on their AHL team.
