Men’s Olympic hockey starts tomorrow and there will be a couple of familiar Flames faces in Sochi. Reto Berra will be playing for Team Switzerland and Ladislav Smid will represent the Czech Republic.

Reto Berra is coming off his first regulation win for the Calgary Flames and he is also undefeated in the shootout. He has a record of 3.02 GAA and save percentage of .896% going into the first game in Russia. If he is to succeed in the Olympics, he will need to work on his rebounds as they have been a weakness for him so far this season.

Berra and Team Switzerland take on Team Latvia on Wednesday, February 12th.

Ladislav Smid has been a big body in front of the Flames net this season and sacrifices himself during every single shift. In his last game against the Philadelphia Flyers, Smid left the game early because of an injury. Just when Smid fans started to wonder if the injury was serious enough to keep him out of the Olympics, it was announced that there was no doubt that he would travel to Russia and play with the Czech Republic. For Smid to be successful in Sochi, he will need to work on his offensive game while still maintaining his position on the blue line.

Laddy and the Czech Republic take on Team Sweden Wednesday, February 12th as well.

Congratulations and good luck to both of our Calgary Flames players!
