Ladislav Smid saw a little bit of ice time for the Czech Republic today. He spent 19:31 time on ice and tallied 3 shots on net against Latvia. It seems that my favorite Calgary Flames defenseman has made a big difference to the Czech Republic team because they won today’s tilt with a score of 4-2.
Reto Berra, our Flames goaltender, was stellar in net for Team Switzerland as he made 30 saves on 31 shots and ended up with a save percentage of .967. It’s no surprise that Berra received the second star of the game. Yet it wasn’t quite enough to defeat the powerhouse Team Sweden. Daniel Alfredsson of the Ottawa Senators had the only goal of the game in the final period to put Sweden above the Swiss with a score of 1-0. Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers made 26 saves throughout the game.
Henrik Zetterberg is out of the Olympic run for Team Sweden because of the herniated disc in his back. Niklas Kronwall has been named the new captain while Alfie took over the position of alternate. Zetterberg’s injury is a big blow to the Swedes, but an even bigger blow to the Detroit Red Wings if the rest of his NHL season is questionable. (OctopusThrower.com)
Jonathan Quick of the L.A. Kings is said to be starting in net again tomorrow for Team USA when they take on Team Russia. (FanSided.com)
Tomorrow’s line-up of games include Slovakia vs. Slovenia, USA vs. Russia, Switzerland vs. Czech Republic, and Sweden vs. Latvia.
Team Canada has a day off before hitting the ice against Finland on Sunday.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Hockey Fans!
Go Team Canada!
