Men’s Olympic Hockey Update – February 16

Things are heating up even more in men’s hockey. The teams are getting fired up and the medal race is coming down to the wire.

Team Austria took on Team Norway early this morning and won with a final score of 3-1. Michael Raffl and Michael Grabner (2) nabbed the goals for Austria while Skroder potted the lone Norway goal.

Team Russia won over Team Slovakia today with goals by Alexander Radulov and Ilya Kovalchuk in the shootout.

Team Slovenia took on Team USA. The USA won by a large margin. Marcel Rodman broke Team USA’s shutout by scoring the only goal for Slovenia. Phil Kessel scored at hat trick and then Ryan McDonagh and David Backes added to the hat trick to take USA over Slovenia with a score of 5-1.

All of the men’s hockey teams get a break on Monday. On Tuesday, February 17th, qualification rounds end when Slovenia plays Austria, Russia takes on Norway, Switzerland takes on Latvia, and Czech Republic plays Slovakia. The winners will move on to the next round of quarterfinals, which will be played on Wednesday.

Sweden will play the winner between Slovenia vs. Austria. Finland will play the winner of Russia vs. Norway. Canada plays the winner of Switzerland vs. Latvia. And the USA will play the winner of the Czech Republic vs. Slovakia.

Ok, hockey fans, it’s prediction time! Who will move into the quarterfinals and take a run for Olympic gold?
