Coda Gordon, a 19 year old left-winger from Cochrane, Alberta, wears number 28 for the Swift Current Broncos this season. He was a 6th round pick for the Calgary Flames in the 2012 draft. At 6’1″ and 181lbs (according to WHL.ca), Gordon is in his third full season with the prairie’s smallest market team.
In 2010-2011, he played one game with the WHL team but didn’t manage to gain any points during his time on ice. It wasn’t until the following season when we saw the rise of a relatively understated player. In 2011-2012, he played 66 games and received 53 points throughout the season. In 2012-2013, he played 70 games and garnered 59 points. Throughout the course of this season, he’s played 51 games so far and earned 63 points, a result of 23 goals and 40 assists. And playoffs haven’t even begun yet.
At the beginning of his WHL career, he started out as a small presence on the ice for the Broncos. Throughout his seasons with the Broncos, he has improved steadily, gaining speed and muscle and has impressed with his stats and playing style.
He’s come far in his quest for the NHL, and I see a lot of potential to become a powerful, talented, controlled player.
