Johnny Gaudreau is good at hockey. And this is the understatement of the season.
With six points during Saturday’s game against Denver, Gaudreau and his linemates led the Boston College Eagles to a 6-2 win. Overall this season, Johnny has 75 points in 38 games in his junior year. And he’s not done the season yet.
As was stated on the Flames website, he has recently won the Walter Brown Award, has been named to Hockey East’s Player Of The Month more than once this season, and was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.
Johnny Gaudreau isn’t just GOOD at hockey, this kid is spectacular.
And now for the real dilemma…
Johnny Hockey has one more year left at Boston College in order to get his degree. The right thing to do would be to stay in school and get it done.
Yet, the Flames need him as part of their rebuild. Here’s the real issue regarding the NHL team – Gaudreau is up for free agency in August 2015, according to the Calgary Sun. Which means that he is free to sign with another team if he chooses. It’s a complex matter of team vs. individual, in which the individual should always win. My only hope is that Johnny Hockey’s loyalties stay with the team that drafted him in 2011.
Bob Hartley has done well in coaching the young guns on the Flames team and I have no doubt that he would be able to shape and mold Gaudreau into an outstanding NHL player as well. My only hope is that Hartley will get the chance.
