Captain, Mark Giordano, in spite of being disappointed about not making playoffs, had good things to say about this season with the Flames as he reviewed the team’s season on Flames TV. He seems to take his leadership role seriously and has nothing but praise for his fellow teammates.

To begin, Gio stated, “I think there’s a lot of positives in our season,” referring of course to the great second-half of the Calgary Flames season when they had weeks of good wins and a lot of progress from the players. But he also admitted that not making playoffs again this year is tough, explaining, it will be “tough to watch over the next few months.” On the other hand, he seemed happy with the productivity of the Flames. “Our style of play is where we want it to be.”

He gave a lot of credit to his teammates, “we have a great group of guys.” He went on to give a lot of praise to T.J. Brodie, explaining that it was a good year for his linemate, attributing a lot of his own success to his blueline partner. Brodie impressed the captain with his skating and ability to move the puck around the ice. Gio even ventured to say that he believes Brodie is one of the “top skaters in the back end” in the NHL.

As for his hopes next season, he believes it’s all in the details of their game. “There’s only one way our team will be successful and that’s with hard work and playing with details.” The captain seems focused and realistic in his expectations for the 2014-2015 season. As for his own role on the team, he hopes for “the same mentality, but hopefully we can take another step forward and get into the mix where you can start talking about us as a playoff team.”

Overall, Mark Giordano said, “we did a good job of not getting too high when we were winning and not getting too low when times were tough.” Being humble is obviously very important to Gio.

In my opinion, teams who rest everything on their feelings rather than concentrating on their goals seem to forget about the details of the game when they start winning and their plays begin to suffer. In this respect, I agree with the Flames captain and I like the tone surrounding this team because I think it will take them far and create good, well-rounded players.

I’m looking forward to more good things from captain Mark Giordano next season and maybe he might have the good fortune of leading them to a playoff run.
