Good morning Calgary Flames fans!

Yesterday, Flame For Thought re-introduced Joni Ortio to the family.  Do you believe Mr. Ortio will start the season with the Calgary Flames or the AHL’s Adirondack Flames?

Fighting in hockey has long been a hot button topic.  Some people believe it is barbaric and does not belong in the sport while others believe fighting is part of the fabric that makes up the game.  I am not here to fight for either side, I am here to simply report a few stats which I found interesting over at HockeyFights.com.

Did you know the top 3 three teams the Calgary Flames have fought against are the Edmonton Oilers (248), Vancouver Canucks (208) and the Los Angeles Kings (164).  The top two teams are no surprise but I would have figured the third team would have been a Canadian counterpart too.

HockeyFights.com even breaks down the individual players of whom the Calgary Flames have fought.  Kelly Buchberger (24), Kevin McClelland (20) and Marty McSorley (20) are your top three opponents faced in Calgary Flames fights.

So, who do you think are the top 3 all time Calgary Flames that have thrown down the gloves and taken the five minute major?  Tim Hunter (153), Jim Peplinski (87), and Joel Otto (76) are the answer to the trivia question. Please feel free to ask the question around the water cooler today at work, I don’t think anybody gets all three correct.  Jarome Iginla, always known as a scorer willing to drop his gloves, is credited with 55 fights placing him 6th overall on the list.

Calgary Flames prospect goaltender Jon Gillies yesterday tweeted about the entertainment world’s loss of Robin Williams.  I couldn’t agree me.

Just so the article does not end on a sad note, here is a peek at who Flame For Thought will be re-introducing this evening.

Have a great day Flames fans.
