According to quanthockey.com, Lance Bouma is only the 3rd NHL’er born in Provost, Alberta.

From Rotoworld.com via the Calgary Herald:

Lance Bouma remains an unsigned restricted free agent for Calgary.“The only thing with Lance is we haven’t agreed to a number yet,” GM Brad Treliving said. “We’ll continue to work away at it. We’ve still got time before training camp opens and we’re hopeful we’ll get something done but as of yet, we haven’t. That’s where that’s at.” Bouma generated five goals and 14 points in 78 games last season. He also racked up 181 hits while logging 12:36 of ice time per contest. Aug 15 – 1:06 PM

The previous update on Lance Bouma from Rotoworld.com takes us back to mid-March of the Calgary Flames regular season:

Lance Bouma was happy to hear that Don Cherry called him “my type of guy.”
Cherry was praising Bouma for his work ethic and blocking shots. “It’s a pretty cool feeling because you grow up watching him, and you respect what he’s saying as a kid,” Bouma said. “To have him mention your name and talk good about you, that means a lot. That’s pretty cool.” Bouma has five goals, 14 points, 144 hits, and 67 blocks in 62 games this season. Mar 14 – 9:31 AM Source: Calgary Sun

Here is The Hockey News breakdown of Lance Bouma:

Assests: Is a hard-working forward with the versatility to play both wing and center.  Heavily-built, he likes to stick his nose in the dirty areas of the ice.  Has good defensive instincts and natural leadership qualities.Flaws: Doesn’t have natural scoring instincts for the highest level.  Plays a hard north-south game, which limits offensive creativity (and, ultimately, point production). Can run into injury issues due to his rambunctious style.

What do you think Flame For Thought family, is it critical for the Calgary Flames to re-sign Lance Bouma?
