Good morning Calgary Flames fans!

Have you ever wondered how winners are selected for internet draws?  You won’t have to wonder how Facebook’s Sydney Fisher and Twitter’s @VintageJohnny84 won Flame For Thought key chains yesterday as I YouTube’d the process.

Markus Granlund was re-introduced to the Flame For Thought family just before bedtime last night.  For as surprised as I would be if Curtis Glencross were to sign a new contract with the Calgary Flames for anything more than one year, I would be equally surprised if Markus Granlund started the 2014-15 regular season in the NHL.

The Hockey News published their 2014-15 Calgary Flames season preview.  The following is their “bottom line” about our favourite team which they have finishing last in the Pacific Division:

"If things go better than expected in Calgary, the Flames will miss out on one of Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel or Noah Hanifin as top prospects in the 2015 draft, but still miss the playoffs. If the Flames predictably struggle, they’ll add another high pick blue-chipper to the prospect stable. Expect Calgary to grind out a lot of close games under well-liked coach Bob Hartley, keeping in mind that most of those matches will be losses."

USA Today released an article named “2014 NHL offseason grades“.  Here is how they graded our Calgary Flames:

"They lost Mike Cammalleri and added Mason Raymond, and surprisingly added goalie Jonas Hiller for a good price (two years, $9 million) to create competition in net. They overpaid (three years, $8.75 million) for defenseman Deryk Engelland, though he will fit well into coach Bob Hartley’s system. Brandon Bollig fits Brian Burke’s desire for truculence. Devin Setoguchi is a good value signing at $750,000, particularly if he can get back to the 20-goal level. Grade: B-  Michael Dwyer, AP"

Calgary Flames main camp starts on September 18th…ONLY TWO WEEKS AWAY!!

Have a great day Flames fans!
