Good morning Calgary Flames fans!
I was unable to catch any of last night’s 3-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks but thanks to Twitter, it almost feels like I watched it. Via Flame For Thought’s Twitter account there is currently a list of 334 Calgary Flames fans and they did a wonderful job filling me in on what I missed.
The best part about being a hockey fan is you are entitled to your opinion. There is no right or wrong opinions but it is fascinating how people can be watching the same game and coming up with almost opposite views. Here’s a great example:
So far in pre season Arnold hasn't been too noticeable to me. Any thoughts?

Bill Arnold is a faceoff wizard. always room for that on the #Flames squad. area of need , big time

If there was an opinion that seemed mutual, it was the admiration society for Calgary Flames 2014 1st round pick Sam Bennett. Most importantly the admiration society was led by Calgary Flames Head Coach Bob Hartley:
Coach Bob Hartley was plenty complimentary to Sam Bennett after the game: "“Tonight it’s very simple...he was our best forward." #Flames

There was one tweet last night that seemed to sum up the “general” feeling on three different Calgary Flames players:
What I saw . . .
— 🍁 B.L.T. 🔥 🇨🇦 (@Royal_BLT) September 26, 2014
Culkin and Cundari are not ready, and the jury is still out on D.Jones !
After Calgary Flames shot-blocker extraordinaire Lance Bouma attempted and failed on a penalty shot, the Twitter list filled with opinions about Mr. Bouma. Here’s the opinion I agree with the most:
Lance Bouma is the perfect example of what a fourth liner should be in today's NHL. Tough, hits, fights but can flat out play.

As for the game itself, here’s all you really need to know remembering that this is still just pre-season:
Thru 40: shots are 26-12 CGY, attempts are 50-27 CGY, goals are 2-1 VAN

This morning’s final tweet is not about the game but about a part of the Flames practice routine that got a lot of play in the media. I don’t see the big deal about the Calgary Flames dedicating some time in practice to learn fighting techniques. Being instructed on how to fight does not make someone a fighter. If you became what you practiced then the league would have be filled with 40 goal scorers.
Flames are back at it tonight in Vancouver. Have a great day Flames fans!
