Calgary Flames Hot Start to the Morning Vol 58

Good morning Calgary Flames fans!!  It’s game day!  It’s a re-match versus Jarome Iginla’s Colorado Avalanche but don’t expect to see Jarome Iginla.

5 other Calgary Flames you won’t see are the most recent training camp cuts: Turner Elson (who played his best when on the penalty kill), Emile Poirier (who will be next training camp’s Johnny Gaudreau), John Ramage (who I thought would have got one more game before this reassignment), Ryan Culkin (his name only appeared after defensive miscues), and Mark Cundari (who should clear waivers).

Staff writer Traci Kay‘s weekly Calgary Flames review covers three of the four games which our Calgary Flames played between September 22-28.  Please give it a read HERE.

Calgary Flames prospect Michael Ferland has not only caught the attention of Calgary Flames fans.  The folks over at HockeyFutures.com named Ferland one of their “weekly roundup” top prospects.  Here is the snippet about our Mr. Ferland:

"Flames’ Ferland showing no rust from long layoffCalgary Flames prospect Michael Ferland provided all the offense his team would need in their 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday night. Ferland’s two goals included the game-winner late in the second, with the second-year player also registering two shots and four hits on the night to earn first star honors. Ferland appeared in just 25 AHL games last season before having his campaign ended by a knee injury. He seems to have recuperated well from that injury, however, and would seem to have some aspects in his game that the Flames need in their lineup."

No matter how hard I argue that our “Calgary Flames Will Not Finish Last in the Pacific Division“, most people still believe our Flames will battle the Buffalo Sabres for last place in the NHL.  So when the Buffalo Sabres FanSided site (Sabre Noise) writes up a preview about our Calgary Flames, I had to check what the “competition” had to say.  My only reaction to the story is that we beat them twice last year, we will beat them twice again this year!

In closing, I’m going to play into superstition.  The morning article before our Calgary Flames beat the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, I suggested that Michael Ferland would start the season in the AHL.  Today I suggest that Sven Baertschi will be starting the regular season in the AHL.

Have a great day Flames fans! Game time is 7PM.
