It’s here, it’s finally here!! Good morning Calgary Flames fans and welcome to opening day in the 2014-15 NHL season!
Every hockey game starts with the National Anthem and tonight’s rendition of “O Canada” by Heather Liscano will be her last. As I write this article, Heather Liscano is trending on Twitter. Here is a link to Flames TV Kristin Hallett’s exit interview with the 16 year retiring singer. Good luck in future endeavors Miss Liscano.
Tonight’s game is a late start (8 PM) which gives everybody a little bit of extra time to play in the inaugural Flame For Thought First Goal of the Game Contest. It is a year long contest with monthly prizes and takes 11.5 seconds to play. Please check it out HERE!
The headline in the Vancouver Sun is “It’s Miller’s time to fan Flames“. I smile as I remember the Calgary Flames were able to sign Jonas Hiller for less money. I look forward to Jonas Hiller beginning the journey to prove that he was the best 2014 free agent signing by the Calgary Flames.
As of this article writing, it appears that David Jones, Devin Setoguchi and Raphael Diaz will be scratched from tonight’s lineup. I find it interesting that both the veterans (Jones & Setoguchi), whom many Flames fans clamoured to have released to allow a Sven Baertschi and/or a Michael Ferland a roster spot, are sitting out.
Also not in the lineup due to injury is the 2014 Calgary Flames 1st round draft pick Sam Bennett. I’m not sure whether to be proud of Mr. Bennett and his “hockey mentality” of playing through his shoulder issues OR if I want to cuff him upside the helmet for potentially jeopardizing his entire career by not being forthcoming with the training staff.
Have a great day Flames fans!
