Trevor Gillies, at the age of 35, has seen his NHL aspirations all but pass him by. Gillies went undrafted in the 1999 draft.
Gillies played in his first NHL game on November 6th, 2005. Gillies only played received two minutes of ice time but earned 21 penalty minutes for his fight with the late Derek Boogaard. Click HERE to watch the fight via HockeyFights.com.
On January 28, 2010 Trevor Gillies re-surfaced in the NHL with the New York Islanders.
On February 12,2011 Trevor Gillies was suspended 9 games by the NHL for the following incident. One item to discuss the hit itself. Another item to discuss is all the punches thrown by Gillies to a man who obviously is defenseless. The last item to discuss is Gillies talking trash to a still recovering player (but honestly that’s more on the officials for allowing that to happen).
To mark his return from his 9 game suspension, Gillies earned himself a 10 game suspension for the following incident.
NOW THIS…
GET THIS GUY THE @#$% OUT OF THE GAME!!!
With all the talk about “respect” amongst players, how does Trevor Gillies continue to find employment? Sure this latest atrocious act was in the AHL level and not the NHL level but “respect” amongst players starts before the NHL level.
The AHL should have suspended Gillies for the rest of the season allowing Father Time to step in and help push this menace to hockey out of the game.
