Tryptophan-induced Calgary Flames Line Rambling

I think it’s time the Calgary Flames moved Joe Colborne (8) to the wing. Mandatory Credit: Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

Thanksgiving has come and gone in Canada.  I would have wrote this article yesterday but the copious amounts of turkey I had put the thoughts into my head but I was asleep before I could get to a computer.

For those who don’t know what Tryptophan is – – an amino acid in turkey which acts as a calming agent in the human brain therefore helping in the sleep process.

It has already become apparent that Calgary Flames coach Bob Hartley wants Joe Colborne and Johnny Gaudreau to be line mates.  That’s fine, but let’s move Colborne to right wing then do one of two things:

  1.  Gaudreau-Sean Monahan-Colborne have worked together on the powerplay, let’s make them work together for a game.  That puts Jiri Hudler onto a line with Curtis Glencross and Mikael Backlund.  For tonight’s game that puts Paul Byron between Mason Raymond and Devin Setoguchi.  OR
  2. Gaudreau-Matt Stajan-Colborne.  Stajan is better than a 4th line center.  I’m not going to blow smoke up your derriere by saying he’s much more than a 3rd line center but that’s all I’m asking for the Flames to do here.  This puts Lance Bouma back at center on the 4th line with Bollig.  For tonight’s game put Setoguchi down onto the 4th line with the “Bash Brothers” and move Mason Raymond up with Sean Monahan.

Furthermore, if the Flames go with Gaudreau & Monahan as line mates for tonight’s game and Gaudreau struggles, I suggest resting Gaudreau for tomorrow night’s game in Chicago.  NOT benching, resting the kid who reportedly and understandably is going through a steep learning curve.  If there was a time to ease Gaudreau’s transition into the NHL, tomorrow night’s game in Chicago would be night off to give him.

Lastly, if Devin Setoguchi struggles tonight as much as he did on Saturday in St. Louis, I would expect to see Brian McGrattan back in the lineup in Chicago replacing Mr. Setoguchi.

GO FLAMES GO!
