The Calgary Flames have already posted on their website that David Jones will be coming off the injured reserve list and playing in Tuesday nights game versus the Habs. Read their announcement HERE.
For a player to come off the injured reserve player one of two things must happen:
- another player on the 23 man roster must go onto the injured reserve list
- a player on the 23 man roster must be demoted to the Adirondack Flames of the AHL
The rumblings brought up in the Calgary Flames website article is that Mason Raymond is day-to-day and “very doubtful” for tomorrow in versus Montreal. Sliding Mason Raymond onto the injured reserve is an option BUT ULTIMATELY it’s a stall tactic.
Trying not to jinx our beloved Flames but health has been on our side so far this year so with David Jones coming back and if Mason Raymond is healthy enough to avoid the injured reserve list, who do the Calgary Flames demote?
For me it’s one of two players, Brian McGrattan or Devin Setoguchi. McGrattan has not played since October 17th while Devin Setoguchi has managed to put up only 1 shot during his four games.
If the Calgary Flames were to error on the side of caution and keep making the healthy veterans press box warriors, then one of Josh Jooris or Johnny Gaudreau needs to be demoted.
Personally I think the Flames are better with Jooris and Gaudreau playing rather than McGrattan and Setoguchi.
