When Calgary Flames fans saw the knee-on-knee hit that Matt Stajan took in last night’s game versus Montreal, I think we all already sorta knew Mr. Stajan was going to be gone for a while. The Calgary Flames have confirmed our fears by placing Matt Stajan on the injured reserve list. The Calgary Flames have also given us fans an estimated 6 week time period for Mr. Stajan’s absence. That puts Stajan’s return around December 10 or about 18 games missed.
With the Calgary Flames needing a center, the call to Adirondack was either going 22 year old Max Reinhart (who has only 1 point in 8 games) or Markus Granlund (who has 5 points this season in the AHL).
Markus Granlund played in 7 games last season with our Calgary Flames before having his audition cut short by injury. Markus Granlund’s exhibition season audition again got cut short by injury. IF, and I hate the fact it’s a capital IF, Granlund can stay healthy, he should be the man that fills in for Matt Stajan the entire 6 weeks.
I suppose the biggest question is how Coach Bob Hartley will use Mr. Granlund.
- Scenario A (the right way) Granlund will centre a line with Curtis Glencross on one side and either David Jones or Josh Jooris on the other.
- Scenario B (the wrong way) Brandon Bollig will be his left winger.
ANOTHER INJURY NOTE:
Joe Colborne has been listed as day-to-day by the Calgary Flames. I would wager if Colborne cannot go on Friday versus Nashville that Devin Setoguchi would draw into the lineup in his place. It would infuriate me if the Calgary Flames put Setoguchi with Monahan-Hudler duo. Heck, make Setoguchi play with Granlund before putting him with Mony. PLEASE BE IN THE LINEUP FRIDAY MR. COLBORNE!
