This was suppose to be a leisurely trip into Florida where our Calgary Flames pick up two more points in this surprising 2014-15 season.  The Calgary Flames escaped Florida with a 6-4 come from behind win.

1st period firewood

Bart Simpson introduced the world to the word “craptacular“.  It’s the only word I can think of to describe that first period.  David Jones was our best offensive threat…need I say more.

Karri Ramo was “welcomed” back to the Flames net with 4 shots against him in the first 77 seconds of the game.  The Flames players must have missed Ramo because it wasn’t until the 4:16 mark of the period that our Calgary Flames had a faceoff on Florida’s side of the rink.

Markus Granlund had a great shift on the penalty kill for our Flames clearing the puck out of the zone multiple times.  With Coach Hartley already employing the blender with his line combinations, it will be interesting to see if Granlund & Johnny Gaudreau get split up.

2nd period firewood

SIX GOALS!!  Three of them against Karri Ramo.  While I have professed my adoration for Jonas Hiller please allow me to defend Karri Ramo –

  1. Jiri Hudler‘s back pass to nobody turned into Hudler fishing the puck out of his net when Florida made it 2-0.
  2. TJ Brodie‘s known for his two line passes.  Well, this one was intercepted and on the ensuing Panthers rush, Brodie lost his man and Florida made it 3-1.
  3. Laddy Smid deserves an assist for the nice pass to Florida player who get his shot banked into the net to make it 4-3 for Florida.

The Calgary Flames penalty kill has looked solid going perfect so far this afternoon.

The shorthanded goal scored by Mark Giordano was after Paul Byron had 99% of the net to shot at but hit Panthers goalie Al Montoya.  I already tried wishing a good luck spell on Mr. Byron to score a goal.  Anybody else have any ideas?

3rd period firewood

Johnny Gaudreau with his second assist of the night.  More so, it was Gaudreau’s second display of Gretzky-esqe patience leading to the assist.

Sean Monahan scored and was the pinnacle of unselfishness by passing the puck to Johnny Gaudreau for him to score on the empty net.

With 3 points today, Mark Giordano currently sits tied for 3rd in NHL scoring with 18 points.  That may change after the slate of games plays out tonight across the NHL but still, Gio being in the Top 10 in scoring a month into the season is beyond incredible.
