The Calgary Flames entered the league 29th overall in shots on goal per game (26.2) whilst sitting 3rd overall in the NHL in goals (61). It somewhat ironic that on a night our Calgary Flames outshoot their opponent 27-22, that they lose 4-3.

The lasting image from the win over Anaheim on Tuesday was Jonas Hiller jumping for joy after making the final shootout save. It’s a different picture today as the final image will be of Jonas Hiller leaving his crease to handle the puck and inadvertently earning an assist on Patrick Kane’s game winner. Calgary Sun writer Wes Gilbertson had a different perspective of the goal:
Blackhawks star Patrick Kane with the go-ahead goal. Deked around #Flames LW Sven Baertschi, who will see that replay in video tomorrow.

A first period recap in less than 140 characters goes as follows:
First period in the books. #Flames and Blackhawks tied 2-2. Shots 12-11 for CHI. Shots were 7-0 when CHI went up 2-0.

The Chicago Blackhawks entered the game with the best penalty killing unit in the NHL. The Calgary Flames scored their first two goals of the game on the powerplay. After two periods, 12 of the 20 Calgary Flames shots were on the powerplay. That’s quasi-mindboggling.
Going into the 3rd period, NHL.com writer Aaron Vickers posted this tweet in hopes that the Calgary Flames would continue to defy the numbers:
Keep this in mind as we enter the 2nd intermission. #Flames are 2nd in the NHL in 3rd period goals with 27. Hawks have allowed league-low 7.

It was a tough loss to a top notch team but there were signs that the future is bright:
#CHIvsCGY FYI: One of the power play forward lines? @johngaudreau03, @SvenBaertschi & @ferdaddy27. #TheKids

Another sign that the future is bright is the fact that after Sean Monahan and Curtis Glencross were on the ice for Chicago 3-2 goal, they were the ones that potted the goal that tied the game at 3 only 1:31 later.
I’m still trying to sell myself on the whole Deryk Engelland thing but I feel the need to share this tweet about big #29:
