How to sum up the Calgary Flames and their fans in one tweet:

Dennis Wideman scored his 2nd goal of the game with the Flames net empty and only 1:17 remaining in the game.  Paul Byron almost ended the game 7 seconds into overtime with a nice deke that just couldn’t beat an outstretched and desperate Colorado goalie.  Sean Monahan would score on his rebound 1:47 into overtime to give our Calgary Flames a 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

1st period  factoid:

I tuned into the game at the midway point of the period.  The line of Michael FerlandMarkus GranlundPaul Byron were the best part of the period for me.  Both Granlund and Ferland play under 3:30 while Sven Baertschi and Brandon Bollig both played over 4:23.

2nd period  factoids:

Sven Baertschi played one (1) shift!

Dennis Wideman giveth, Dennis Wideman taketh.  The Flames first goal was a becoming typical strong zone entry by Johnny Gaudreau then a fluttering pass over to Dennis Wideman.  The Calgary Roughnecks Lacrosse Club would be proud of how Wideman cradled the puck in and wired a shot on net to open the scoring.  Colorado’s first goal was scored when Wideman pinched down to take a shot.  Shot was blocked and the Avs turned the shot block into a 2-on-1 and a goal.

Colorado would go on a 15 straight shot streak.  That’s right, 15 consecutive shots against the Flames!!  Shots in the 2nd period were 15-8 in favour of Colorado.

Michael Ferland finished the period with another great chance to score.  Having a heckuva game.

3rd period factoids:

Michael Ferland earned the Sportsnet TV “Crunch of the Game” for his hit on Gabriel Landeskog.  Ferland made the most of his 10:47 of ice time throughout the game.

I repeat one question though, how does Brandon Bollig (9:27) continue to get more ice time than Sven Baertschi (7:29)?
