Dec 20, 2014; Vancouver, British Columbia, CAN; Vancouver Canucks defenseman Yannick Weber (not pictured) scores an empty net goal against the Calgary Flames during the first period at Rogers Arena. Mandatory Credit: Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY SportsI admit, I turned off the television after the Vancouver Canucks made it 2-0. Regardless of the losing the streak, our Calgary Flames still have a reputation this season of being the comeback kids. I still couldn’t bring myself to continue watching the game.
When your favourite hockey team scores a goal that kicks in the soccer term “own goal”, it takes a few minutes to peel your face out of your palms. By the time I had my eyes on the television again our boys were shorthanded. The Calgary Flames were shorthanded for a mere 20 seconds before the Vancouver Canucks extended their lead to 2-0.
At that very moment, I had never felt so much anger and frustration that I had to turn off the television.
What fueled the anger and frustration was seeing the video (which I’m posting) of the Flames “own goal” and then finding a tweet (which I’m posting) which clearly shows a Canuck player touched the puck. No, the Canuck player never “controlled” the puck but he “touched” the puck and to my hockey knowledge, that warrants a stop in play.
You cannot and will not convince that if the “own goal” is waved off that the outcome of last night’s changes.
Last thought, I’ve seen enough of #33 Raphael Diaz that I’m actually craving a Corey Potter sighting. EEP!
