Calgary Flames Prospects: Emergence Of Mark Jankowski

facebooktwitterreddit

Selected 21st overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Mark Jankowski was seen as an off-the-board pick by then interim general manager, Jay Feaster.

Three years later, we are starting to see Jankowski grow into a veritable force in the NCAA:

That’s growth that Calgary Flames fans can all take in, improving his points-per-game by an astonishing amount.

More from Flame for Thought

This work that Jankowski seems to be putting in on the ice is matched by his effort off it. Listed at a plucky 175lbs, Jankowski has now been clocked in unofficially by Providence head coach, Nate Leaman at 205lbs.

“He came in as a weak freshman at 170 (pounds). The next year he played at 180, then 190, and this year he’s playing at 200, 205. That’s the difference.”

Now 21 years old, Jankowski is in his senior year at Providence College. With this new found scoring prowess, the Calgary Flames latest rookie sensation, Jankowski’s torrid pace could have him at the front of Hobey Baker discussions; an honor bestowed upon the Most Valuable Player in the NCAA.

Comparing Jankowski’s stats to NCAA alumnus and now Calgary Flames regular, Johnny Gaudreau‘s astronomical numbers of 80 points in 40 games, Jankowski has an opportunity to post 55 points, if his pace continues.

Regardless, comparing Jankowski to Gaudreau is far-fetched as we can expect a different style of game from him., but it does bear comparison as they did both compete in the NCAA.

Hopefully, given the amount of time Calgary Flames fans have had to mull on Jankowski, we see a decent performance from him in the near future. If this keeps up, I feel confident that will happen.
